AIR POLLUTION...

1. DEFINITION
-Human introduction into the atmosphere of chemicals, particulate matter, or biological materials that cause harm or discomfort to humans or other living organisms, or damages the environment.
-As the presence in the outdoor atmosphere of one or more contaminants(pollutions) in quantities and duration.

(edited by David H. F. liu, Bela G. Liptak, Lewis Publisher, 2000)

2. SOURCE OF AIR POLLUTION
-various locations, activities or factors which are responsible for the releasing of pollutants in the atmosphere. This source can be classified into 2 major categories which are:
(a) Anthropogenic source (human activities)
* mostly related to burning different kinds of fuel

(b) Natural sources
* large areas of land with little or no vegetation
* smoke and carbon monoxide from wildfres.

3. CAUSES OF AIR POLLUTION
(a) Energy consumption
* the burning of fossil fuels to produce electricity or to power transportation vehicles.

(b) Acid rain
* significant air pollution problem that affects rural, suburban and urban areas that are down-wind of major industrial areas.

(c) Global warming
* happening now and affects everyone.

4. EFFECT OF AIR POLLUTION
(a) Peoples, animals and plant-life
* can cause short-term effects such as eye and throat irritation.
* such as cancer and damage to the body's immune, neurological, reproductive and respiratory systems.

(b) Childrens
* due to their size and the fact that they are in the process of developing are at greater health related risk.

(c) Atmospheric effects
* changes in urban climatological characteristic
* increased frequency of rainfall and attendant meteorological phenomena.
* global warming.

(d) Effects of topography on air motion.
* micro and mesoscale air motion near point and area sources.

5. HOW TO SOLVE
(a) Using energy more efficiently and switching to alternative energy sources.
(b) Decrease using vehicles on the road.
(c) Avoid open burning.
(d) Using Hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFC).
(e) Recycle newspapers, aluminiums, and other materials.
(f) Replant trees and avoid purchasing products.

6. CONCLUSION.
-Air pollution is one type of pollution in the world. We must avoid or decrease the air pollution or other pollution to make our life better. We must cooperation to solve air pollution because we need to breath in the fresh air.
